Ivory coast players jubilates after defeating Ghana in the final round of Afcon 2015
Ivory Coast yesterday are now crowned champions of Africa after defeating their counterpart Ghana on penalty shoot out in the final round of the African cup of nations hosted by Equitorial guinea 2015.
The match is classified as a tug-of-war, but both teams were seperated by a penalty shoot out which ended 9-8 in favour of the Ivorians.
With the match tied 8-8, Ivort Coast goal keeper Boubacar Barry blocked a penalty attempt from oppposing Razak Braimah and then stepped up to convert his own to ensure a first title since ivory coast beat ghana in similar circumstances in 1992.
Victory for the Ivorians also handed coach Herve Renard the distinction of becoming the first coach to win the tournament with different countries after his success with zambia in 2012, when they edged the ivorians in a shootout.
The Ivorians have won the title twice, with their first title in Senegal in the year 1992.
