Luiz Suarez hat-trick fires Barcelona to La-Liga title victory

Luiz Suarez hat-trick was what Barcelona needed to retain the La-Liga premier division title after a  3-0 outstanding victory at Granada.

Suarez's first-half double put the defending champions in control and the Uruguay international confirmed Barca's 24th La Liga crown with his third goal four minutes from time

Real, who entered the weekend just a point behind their fierce rivals, beat Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo brace but it proved in vain.

The Champions League finalists were on an 11-match winning streak in the league and were looking to capitalise on any further slip-up from the Catalans to steal top spot.

Barca, though, were not made to pay for their mini-slump in April - which brought three Primera Division defeats in four games - as they secured a fifth successive victory and a sixth title in eight years.

Despite a nervy start at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, it was Suarez who eased the tension with a 21st-minute goal.

The former Liverpool forward tapped home Jordi Alba's cross and then headed in Dani Alves' centre at the near post just before the break to double Barcelona's advantage.

Granada did seek a route back into the contest but Suarez ended any hope they, and Zinedine Zidane's Real, had of a comeback with a simple 86th-minute goal after unselfish work from Neymar.

The hat-trick also allowed Suarez to win his personal battle with Ronaldo in the race to clinch the Trofeo Pichichi - the league's top scorer - with 40 goals.

Madrid's talisman did do his best to breathe life into the title tussle with his own first-half double in Deportivo, but his 34th and 35th goals of the La Liga campaign were merely consolation.

Lionel Messi ready to quit Barcelona for Manchester United or Chelsea

LIONEL MESSI has reportedly indicated he is ready to leave Barcelona for a move to the Premier League.

Messi is currently sidelined at the Nou Camp with a knee ligament injury.

And with the Argentina superstar embroiled in an ongoing dispute with the Spanish authorities it is claimed he is considering leaving.

The Sun report Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all made informal approaches to Messi's representatives this week - with one club making contact twice this week.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is apparently considering a move to the Premier League

Messi was linked with the Prem's big hitters in January but has apparently given indication he is willing to listen this time around.

The Sun add Messi often speaks to his friends who play in the Premier League such as Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Aguero.

A summer move is unlikely given the 28-year-old's £180million release clause at Barcelona.

But in June 2017, Messi will be 30 with just a year left on his deal with the Spanish giants - making a move more feasible.

Messi and his father Jorge face trial over an alleged £3.1million tax fraud relating to image rights deals.

The man who wants to take the Messis to court is State Attorney Marta Silva Lapuerta, who intriguingly worked as secretary of the Real Madrid board under current president Florentino Perez.

However, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes the Premier League lacks the pull to land a player like Messi.

"I think there are only three clubs in the world who have the power to say, 'I don't sell,'" Mourinho said in August. "This is Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

"Is anyone in England interested in Thomas Muller? For sure. Can we, England, bring Thomas Muller from Bayern? I don't think so.

"Does anyone want [Lionel] Messi? Can you bring him? I don't think so. They are big clubs with big history, economically strong and stable, income amazing. I think they sell when they want to sell.

"When you see a player leave one of these big clubs you have to think it's because they want him to go. That's my feeling.

"[I'm] speaking about the ones who make the world stop. Big transfers. When does Messi leave Barcelona? When he finishes his career. Report from express.co.uk

Celta Vigo annihilated Barcelona with a 4-1 crushing

Barcelona on Wednesday were shocked by an emphatic display  by the home side Celta Vigo after a wonderful start to the 2015-2016 premier division season

The Spanish giant fell behind in the 26th minute after ex-Barcelona player Nolito notched has fifth goal of the season with a superb curling.

At the 30th minute, Nolito made the assist of the second goal by nodding the ball to Lago Aspas after Gerard Pique made an erroneous mistake.

Celta were relentless and combined again for the third goal on 56 minutes by Lago Aspas

Neymar pulled one back at the 80th minutes before a subtitute John Guidetti clipped in three minutes later as unbeaten Celta Wrapped another triumph over their former boss Luis Enrique.

"I'm not happy to lose 4-1. I'll evaluate and analyse it but it's a test to show how difficult it can be," the Barca boss told reporters.

"All that remains is to congratulate Celta. They played a very complete game, in terms of effectiveness and their football.

"We suffered a lot in the individual battles - the first goal for Nolito went in the top corner but the second was our mistake.

"This result will be useful to tell us that it costs a lot to win - I prefer it when a team wins like Celta did, playing well. They're one of the more attractive [teams].

"We already knew if we committed mistakes we were going to be made to pay for them."

Lionel Messi wins goal of the season

The UEFA Best Player in Europe wasn't the only award that Lionel Messi got on Thursday.

Before the Champions League group stage draw and the ceremony that named the Argentine superstar as the best performer of last season, the Barcelona genius was also awarded "Champions League Goal of the Season" for his unforgettable score against Bayern Munich in the first leg of last season's semifinal.

Late in the second half, after Leo himself found the opening goal, Barça started to dominate the game, and after a nice exchange of passes, Ivan Rakitic played a beautiful through ball to Messi, who went into a one-on-one duel with center-back Jerome Boateng. The number 10 made a spectacular move that literally made the German defender fall to the ground, and to complete the masterpiece, he gracefully chipped the ball over Manuel Neuer to score his second of the game.

In case you have forgotten, or just want to see for the thousandth time like myself, here is the award-winning spectacle by the world's greatest footballer.

No international break for Messi

Lionel Messi has been included in the Argentina squad for upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Bolivia despite speculation suggesting the Barcelona star was to seek a break from international football.

The 28-year-old captained the selection which finished second at the 2015 Copa America in Chile last month and ultimately became one of the players targeted for criticism.

Messi impressed in spurts during the competition, but his inability to consistently reproduce his Barca form on the international stage has started to gripe with some supporters.

However, even though Messi had reportedly been considering a break from Argentina duty due to that criticism, coach Gerardo Martino has named him in the squad as they prepare to face Bolivia and Mexico in the United States on September 4 and 8, respectively.

Other than Ramiro Funes Mori earning a call-up, the squad is exactly the same as the one to reach the final in Chile, with Angel di Maria also present despite not yet playing for his new club Paris Saint-Germain.

Squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Nahuel Guzman (Club Tigres), Sergio Romero (Manchcester United).

Defenders: Milton Casco (Newell's Old Boys), Martin Demichelis (Manchester City), Ezequiel Garay (Zenit), Agustin Marchesin (Santos Laguna), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Facundo Roncaglia (Genoa), Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia), Marcos Rojo (Manchester United), .

Midfielders: Ramiro Funes Mori (River Plate), Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Ever Banega (Sevilla), Lucas Biglia (Lazio), Javier Pastore (PSG), Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur), Roberto Pereyra (Juventus), Fernando Gago (Boca Juniors), Angel di Maria (PSG).

Forwards: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Carlos Tevez (Boca Juniors), Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli), Ezequiel Lavezzi (PSG).

Barcelona refutes 'whore' rant and appeal Pique red

Barcelona have appealed against the red card shown to Gerard Pique during the Supercopa de Espana second leg on Monday, claiming the defender did not tell an assistant referee: "I s*** on your whore mother".

The Barcelona defender was sent off early in the second half of the draw against Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou as his side were beaten 5-1 on aggregate.

Details of his outburst were reported in referee Carlos Velasco's report – the centre-back having reacted angrily to the lack of an offside decision against Athletic striker Aritz Aduriz.

Pique's could also face a suspension of between four and 12 games, but is said by the club to have questioned the referee's version of events.

"FC Barcelona filed objections on Tuesday to the red card shown to Gerard Pique in the 58th minute of the Supercopa de Espana against Athletic Bilbao," read a statement.

Atletico Bilbao annihilated Barcelona with a stunning 4-0 crushing

Barcelona's defensive frailties were once again evident as the treble winners were annihilated 4-0 by Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana on Friday, Aritz Aduriz netting a hat-trick.

Luis Enrique's men surrendered a three-goal lead against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup earlier this week before eventually winning 5-4 in extra-time, but Barca were not afforded such a dramatic escape this time around as Athletic took them apart.

Seemingly sensing Barca's jadedness from Tuesday's 120-minute ordeal, Athletic were sharp in the tackle and far quicker to the ball and, although the nature of the opening goal was by no means expected, the home side deserved to open the scoring 13 minutes in.

Mikel San Jose made the most of Marc-Andre ter Stegen's reckless dart out of his area to head clear, finding the net from 45 yards to leave the German looking stunned.

Barca appeared to produce as improvement at the start of the second half, with Tuesday's match-winner Pedro striking the crossbar, but Athletic doubled their tally almost straightaway – Aduriz heading past Ter Stegen.

Aduriz slammed home his second just after the hour mark and then rounded off a fine individual display 22 minutes from the end, sliding home a penalty to embarrass Barca and take a huge advantage into next Monday's second leg.

Despite what ultimately proved to be a disastrous day in Bilbao, Barca began the contest in typical fashion, dominating possession and getting the ball forward quickly as the European champions probed for an early breakthrough.

But, with Thomas Vermaelen starting in place of the rested Gerard Pique, Barca looked frail at the back and Ter Stegen was forced into an important stop to deny Aduriz at the near post in the 11th minute.

And just two minutes later Athletic were in front, as Ter Stegen's headed clearance from outside the area was pounced upon by San Jose just inside the Barca half and the defender smashed a flawless half-volley over the stranded goalkeeper from the centre circle.

There was no sign of that freak opener jolting Barca into life, though.

In fact, the hosts looked more likely to double their advantage and a crucial Marc Bartra tackle halted Javier Eraso nine minutes before the break, with the midfielder all set to pull the trigger in the area.

Athletic had Gorka Iraizoz to thank for ensuring their lead remained intact at the break, however, as the goalkeeper produced a wonderful flying save to tip Lionel Messi's goal-bound free-kick over.

Seemingly following a half-time dressing down from coach Luis Enrique, Barca came back out after the break with a renewed sense of urgency and should have equalised four minutes in, but Pedro's fierce drive came back off the frame of the goal.

Athletic's response was swift and devastating.

Just three minutes later, Sabin seized on a Sergi Roberto error and delivered a fine cross from the left, with Aduriz rising above Javier Mascherano to net with a trademark towering header.

Aduriz was again in the right place at the right time in the 62nd minute, as he collected Eraso's squared pass and found the bottom-left corner.

A moment of rashness from Dani Alves saw the Brazilian concede a penalty six minutes later as he bundled into his man at the back post, and Aduriz took full advantage from the spot-kick, coolly stroking past Ter Stegen.

Barca looked incapable of mounting much of a response to the onslaught and Athletic cruised to memorable victory, going some way to erasing the pain of May's 3-1 Copa del Rey final defeat to Luis Enrique's men.

I' m not among world's best - Luiz Suarez

Barcelona star Luis Suarez insists he does not consider himself among the world's best players despite his performances in recent seasons.

The controversial Uruguayan scored 25 goals in all competitions for Barca last season, following on from prolific campaigns at Liverpool.

But he is unfazed by where he stands among the world's best players.

"One always tries to accept praise and the things fans say, but I don't consider myself the most humble nor one of the best," Suarez told ESPN FC.

"I just try and do my work the best I can. I'm in the best team in the world and doing things I never imagined doing, but that job I leave to the rest so they can give their opinion."

With Lionel Messi and Neymar, Suarez helped form a devastating Barca attack that won the treble in 2014-15.

The 28-year-old said he had to maintain a good level to keep up with his fellow stars.

"You're in Barcelona and you have Leo and Neymar by your side so you have to be one of the best," Suarez said.

"I have the privilege to play with those quality players, just as much them as the whole team, including [Andres] Iniesta, which was a dream for me to play by his side, with players that I enjoy playing alongside.

"Being on the best team in the world fills you with pride, leaves you calm, shows you how hard it is to get here. And that's why you have to enjoy the moment once you're here."

Gerard handed Barcelona B role

Gerard Lopez has become the latest ex-Barcelona midfielder to assume the role of head coach for the club's B team after agreeing a two-year contract.

The 36-year-old will follow in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique in taking charge of the Camp Nou outfit's second string, with Barca hopeful he can ultimately emulate their successes.

Both Guardiola and Luis Enrique went on to win trebles with the first team after learning their trade with Barca B, but the new boss in solely focused on lifting the club back into the second division.

"It is an honour to return to the club," he told the club's official website. "My family has been linked to Barcelona, I spent many years at the club and me back is better than I could spend.

"As a coach of Barca B have two major challenges – to return Barca B to the Second Division A and help youth players can climb into the first team.

"My experience in the squad and the club branch will be useful to me, because I put myself in the skin of the players. I want to start work and I am convinced that next Pep Segura will a great job. "

During his playing career Gerard made 140 appearances for Barca, scoring 10 goals in his five years there.

Guardiola returns to Camp Nou as Barcelona face Bayern on wednesday

Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola makes his return to the Camp Nou on Wednesday targeting a repeat of the sides' UEFA Champions League semi-final of 2013.

Bayern cruised to a dominant 7-0 aggregate success two years ago under Guardiola's predecessor Jupp Heynckes, before going on to complete a famous treble.

For Guardiola, Bayern can only lift two titles this term and to do so they will need to arrest stuttering form against a Barca side full of confidence.

While Guardiola's men were dumped out of the DFB-Pokal semi-finals by Borussia Dortmund before losing 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen, Barca put eight past Cordoba to keep their treble hopes on course.

Javi Martinez made his long-awaited return from a knee injury at the BayArena and is focused on helping shackle Barca's free-scoring front trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

"The knee is good. Leverkusen was a good test for me and now I'm ready to help my team in the next game," he told reporters ahead of Wednesday's first leg.

"Whether I play or not depends on the coach. Stopping Messi, Neymar and Suarez will be very difficult.

"But we are not afraid. If we want to win, we can't allow ourselves to be afraid. We have a big heart and we have a big goal."

Robert Lewandowski is set to feature with a mask after sustaining multiple injuries against former club Dortmund although Franck Ribery (ankle) remains doubtful.

Guardiola's former Barca team-mate Luis Enrique has one worry - having seen Jordi Aba train alone on Monday - as he seeks to ensure the four-time winners reach their eighth final.

The pair both coached at Barca B after their playing careers ended with Luis Enrique making a strong start in his bid to emulate Guardiola's 14-trophy at the Camp Nou helm.

Victory on Tuesday would set Barca on course for their first Champions League final appearance since 2011 and the Liga leaders could hardly be in better form.

Winning 15 of their last 16 games in all competitions and with Messi taking his tally for the season to 40 at the weekend, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu played down the importance Guardiola's return.

"There's no favourite. It's an open tie against a great team that has a coach who knows us very well," Bartomeu told Hat Trick Barca.

"It is necessary to honour Pep and I believe it has to be spontaneous. We won't organise anything. There'll be no video or anything.

"He comes with all the honours but also to win. After the game we can salute him.

"I believe the relationship between Guardiola and the board ended well. The doors of Barca are open when he wants to come back. I think he will one day."

PSG could not match Barca´s level - Luiz

David Luiz has conceded that Paris Saint-Germain could not match the level of Barcelona after they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

Having lost the first leg at the Parc des Princes 3-1, PSG faced an uphill battle to avoid going out in the last eight for the third consecutive season on Tuesday.

But PSG never came close to mounting a spectacular comeback at Camp Nou, with a double from Neymar securing a 5-1 aggregate win for Barca.

And Luiz told ITV: "They were a better team than us in both games. They controlled the games and deserved to qualify. They had a great match and took opportunities to score when they came.

"All the teams have spent money. We did very well until here, but against Barca we couldn't play at the same level. This is life."

The former Chelsea man expects PSG to fare better in next season's competition, however, adding: "We need to improve and next year we will challenge for the Champions League
Walsh also credited an improved attacking intent behind Leicester's recent run - having scored 10 of their 34 league goals in their last four games.

"The tactics and the way we've been attacking a little bit more have worked well," he added.

"When the fixtures came out and I looked at the last eight games and saw they were all winnable bar Chelsea possibly.

"There's potential in the team and all credit to Nigel Pearson for sticking with it and taking pressure off the team.

"We've not done it yet by all means we've got it in our own hands because we've got four home games to come."

Lionel Messi shocks the media

When the best player in the world talks about his football preferences, the sports media sits up and pays attention. And, having played against all of the best players in the world of his generation, it has come as a shock to many to see who he has chosen as the best goalkeeping performance that he has ever faced. British news outlet, The Scotsman quotes Messi as saying:

“There was one game in Scotland where he (Fraser Forster) was not human, it is the best goalkeeping performance I have seen.”

Looking back now it seems impossible that Celtic beat this pre-eminent Barcelona side in The Champions League. But, just a couple of years ago they did indeed win 2-1 against Barcelona in an atmosphere which will take some beating. Messi said of the fixture:

“The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them. We know we would get a tough game if we drew them in the Champions League, but everybody involved in those Barcelona v Celtic games wants to go and play there again.

Forster was incredible that night and is a very highly regarded goalkeeper who has been competing seriously with Manchester City keeper Joe Hart for the number one jersey at international level for England.

But having faced the likes of Casillas, Van der Saar, Cech and Neuer in their prime, it’s still something of a surprise to hear the Barcelona man mark this game as the best goalkeeping performance that he has seen.

And it’s high praise indeed for Forster, who has been a big hit in England since his move to Southampton.

Let’s see the lad in action. Barcelona fans: could you see Forster playing for Barca one day?

Barcelona draw has improved Real Madrid title hopes

Barcelona draw with Sevilla has improved chances of Real Madrid La Liga title contention hopes, with the gap now two points close.

A game that seemed to materialize as a decisive victory for F.C Barcelona slipped through their grasp, as they tied at the RamĂ³n SĂ¡nchez PizjuĂ¡n Stadium in a important away match against Sevilla FĂºtbol Club.

The tie leaves Barcelona with a bitter taste as they now lay justtwo points ahead of Spanish rivals Real Madrid, who bested Elche C.F. (3 – 0) earlier today at the Santiago BernabĂ©u. Controversial substitutions by Luis Enrique are the blame for what some call a “defeat” as Neymar gottaken off the pitch while being a central figure in Barcelona’s attack force – even netting an impressive free kick before half time.

As it stands, The Catalans have very a couple of important fixtures in the following weeks. Fatigue hasn’t really been a central  issue as Luis Enrique has played his cards right, resting key players in the starting eleven.

The upcoming fixtures include Champions League matches against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain F.C , Valencia C.F , and classic derby against Espanyol. If the Catalans were to lose another La Liga game , Real Madrid would take the lead. To make matters worse, if Barcelona and Real Madrid would tie on points, Real would beat them on goals scored/conceded against Barça.

Los Cules though , are on the road to win another historic Treble, with the Copa del Rey, Champions League , and La Liga title still up for grabs.

Luis SuĂ¡rez has recently expressed his thoughts about the various competitions and responded “We are obliged to win the Champions League, La Liga, the cup of whichever trophy there is to win. Playing in a team like this were all the players want to win everything and every single match,We’re in a club where winning is everything, it’s an obligation.” With vital and exciting games right around the corner.

It is only a matter of time before Lucho will succeed in bringing home the Treble for The Catalans. A feat that was last accomplished by no other than Pep Guardiola, who could be a potential opponent on Barcelona’s way to Champions League victory.

Luis Enrique praises Barcelona fortitude

The Catalan giants came into the clash at Balaidos having seen bitter rivals Real Madrid cut their lead at the top of the table to one point with a 9-1 demolition of Granada.

Celta had beaten Barca 1-0 in the reverse fixture back in November, but this time it was Luis Enrique who got the better of his former club as Jeremy Mathieu nodded in Xavi's free-kick in the 73rd minute.

It was a crucial goal on the back of a less-than impressive Barca performance, but the coach praised his players for grinding out the victory.

"It has cost a lot," he said. "We believe that they are important points because of the difficulty [of the game].

"To win this way reinforces the squad and prepares us for what's left."

Matchwinner Mathieu added: "It was a difficult game, but sometimes matches are won with small details.

"Sometimes you have to suffer, but the three points are the most important thing."

Pique optimistic of Messi fitness against Celta Vigo

Gerard Pique expects Lionel Messi to be fit for Barcelona's trip to Celta Vigo despite his foot injury.

Messi missed Argentina's friendly victories over El Salvador and Ecuador due to swelling on his right foot, but Pique expects the 27-year-old to return for his club this weekend.

"I'm optimistic about Messi," said the defender. "I spoke with him and I think he'll be able to play at Balaidos [Celta's ground].

"But it depends on how he feels this week.

"It's the team doctors who have to decide. But from what I can gather, he'll be okay."

Neymar will win Ballon d´Or - Suarez

El Clasico hero Luis Suarez has backed Barcelona team-mate Neymar to be crowned the best player in the world during his career and win the Ballon d'Or.

The Uruguayan was the matchwinner in Sunday's 2-1 victory at Camp Nou as Luis Enrique's front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Suarez proved too strong for the visitors.

After a mixed start to life at Barca, Suarez is now one of Luis Enrique's key fixtures and could have scored prior to his winner, had Neymar opted for a pass rather than a shot.

However, the former Liverpool striker backed 23-year-old Neymar to follow Messi and win the Ballon d'Or.

"After the run that Neymar went on, he had to go for it rather than pass. Strikers are selfish," Suarez told RAC1.

"He's a very determined player and I'm convinced he'll win a Ballon d'Or or two.

Having scored his first Clasico goal on Sunday, Suarez also discussed the ever-improving relationship with Messi and Neymar, in arguably the world's finest front line.

"I was brought to Barca to score goals," he added.

"I use Messi and Neymar's movement and they use mine.

"You don't need much time to discover Messi's quality. The connection with him has been very easy.

"The goal from [Sunday] has an added meaning because of the opposition, because of the situation and because it strengthens our position at the top of La Liga."
