Ronaldo will score goals - Benitez

Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez says Cristiano Ronaldo guarantees goals, amid suggestions his side are struggling to click in the final third.

Madrid take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday off the back of a 3-0 victory against Levante in La Liga where they were without the likes of Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez.

Prior to the weekend, which saw Ronaldo become the club's all-time leading goalscorer, Benitez's men had scored only six goals in five games amid a functional start to his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"We have a guarantee of goals with Cristiano and as a team we know what we need to do on the pitch," the Spaniard explained.

"Despite the injuries our team has some spectacular statistics. Our team is a team that attacks. Our idea is to score goals and to win the match."

Gareth Bale was withdrawn in the second half of Saturday's win after a recurrence of his calf problem while Luka Modric is also a doubt for Wednesday's clash in Paris.

"We left [Bale] out of Levante, I have the feeling that he is tired, he says he has a small injury but wants to play," Benitez added.

"I decided with my coaching staff to replace him and then we found that he had an injury, but things went well.

"Losing a player of his quality is important but in the second half the team played well and ended up winning.

"[Modric] has trained these past few days and if he is here it is because we think he is fit, we will train later and then take a better decision."

Benitez refutes Ronaldo rift rumours

Rafael Benitez has reiterated there is no problem between himself and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested the pair have traded heated exchanges during pre-season, and tension erupted between them after Benitez disallowed a Ronaldo goal during training.

Despite talk of a rift within the Madrid camp, Ronaldo has started both friendlies at the International Champions Cup in Melbourne against Roma and Manchester City.

With Benitez set to lead his new charges against former club Inter in Guangzhou on Monday, he again insisted he had no issues with the Portugal international.

"My relationship with him is good," said Benitez. "When someone gets angry during a training session, but then does their job, there's no problem, it's fine."

Benitez hints at Napoli stay

Rafael Benitez has hinted he could remain with Napoli if the club invests in their squad.

Benitez is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a number of coaching positions elsewhere.

A return to Liverpool and a move to Manchester City have both been mooted as possibilities for the Spaniard, whose side face Wolfsburg in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg on Thursday with a 4-1 advantage from the first game.

But Benitez told a press conference ahead of that encounter: "Winning tomorrow is crucial to give ourselves the opportunity of reaching the final and possibly winning the Europa League.

"Napoli belongs to the city, and to the fans. If this city sees the team reach the final it will be a source of pride.

"Then, if the club plans to grow, I will talk with my family and assess the possibility of staying."

Benitez praises 'spectacular' Napoli

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez lauded his "spectacular" team after their 4-1 win at Wolfsburg on Thursday.

Marek Hamsik netted a brace and Gonzalo Higuain and Manolo Gabbiadini were also on the scoresheet in the huge UEFA Europa League first-leg quarter-final win.

Benitez was full of praise for his team, but was unwilling to describe it as their best of the campaign.

"A spectacular performance. I've said for a long time this squad has quality, character and professionalism, all of which were on show tonight," he told Mediaset.

"We put in great games against Roma and Lazio, yet played worse against Fiorentina and won 3-0.

"Tonight we combined the performance with the result, showing players who work for each other and this attitude can make the difference."

Napoli's players were put into a training camp after their loss to Lazio in the Coppa Italia on April 8.

Benitez has accepted that decision, but believes some of the criticism of his players has been unfair.

"We all know where this team started from and there was a bit of a slow down this year, but we did play well and just made some individual errors," the Spaniard said.

“What I do not like is hearing people say the players are unprofessional or undisciplined."

Rafeal Benitez wanted Wolfsburg trio

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez wanted to sign a Wolfsburg trio when he first took over at the Serie A club.

Ahead of the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg between the teams on Thursday, Benitez revealed he had his eye on several Wolfsburg players when he took charge at Napoli in May 2013.

Andre Schurrle, Ivan Perisic and Luiz Gustavo were all targets for Benitez, who was unable to sign any of that group.

"Wolfsburg are a great team," Benitez told a news conference.

"When we started our work here we were planning to bring in players like Andre Schurrle, Ivan Perisic and Luiz Gustavo.

"We were very interested in these players but there was nothing we could do. They would have been good for the team in terms of a more physical approach to games.

"We know them very well, and so we will have to do a good job both mentally and physically, because Wolfsburg have a lot of quality."

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has put the team into a permanent training camp ahead of the Europa League clash.
Benitez said he accepted that decision.

"Everyone has its own way to manage these kind of situations," the Spaniard said.

"I have respected the president's decision [to force a training camp] mainly because we still have 10 games to go and we can still do a very positive season.

"We must be united to make our fans happy."
