Borussia Dortmund announces Klopp replacement

Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund have announced that Thomas Tuchel is to become their new manager at the end of the season, according to the club’s official Twitter account.

The Westfalenstadion’s long standing former boss Jurgen Klopp stepped aside earlier in the week, which sparked an emotional reaction from the club’s fan base but Dortmund’s hierarchy have moved quickly to appoint a successor.

Tuchel, 41, spent five years in charge of FSV Mainz 05 and led the club to a Europa League spot during his last season in charge.

However, he decided to take a sabbatical from the game, which is a path that Klopp will not follow, and now seems suitably prepared to take on a new role given the length of time he has spent away from the game.

Tuchel was believed to have been offered the Hamburg job last week, but turned it down, and will now be tasked with restoring Dortmund towards the top of German football, which will be no easy feat.

Although the club enjoyed plenty of success in recent years, this season has been a failure given that the club are languishing in mid table and are no longer able to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Yellow Wall will undoubtedly put full faith in their new manager, but there is much work to be done if Tuchel is to be as successful as his predecessor.
