The diminutive attacking midfielder started his career in the south of France with hometown club Marseille and made his name in English football at Arsenal, before becoming the first of many players to leave the Gunners and join the revolution at Manchester City.
The Arsenal fans still haven’t forgiven him for that, but two Premier League titles have shown the wisdom of his move. Nasri’s international career has been less successful in recent years; following a number of controversial incidents – which reportedly include a foul-mouthed confrontation with a journalist after France’s elimination from Euro 2012 – and missing out on the World Cup last summer, the 27-year-old announced his retirement from international football.
Having scored twice in four games following his return from a month out injured, however, he is in a better mood to talk about the race for this season’s Premier League title…
You’re five points behind. Have you seen signs that you can catch Chelsea?
“The Premier League is far, far, far from over. We were eight points behind Manchester United in 2012 and we caught them. At some point Chelsea will drop points, especially if they continue in the Champions League.”
