Cristiano Ronaldo reacts on Twitter to Real Madrid’s Champions League progress

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to his side’s progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The defending European champions got the better of their city-rivals Atletico Madrid to retain their chances of winning the prestigious competition for the second season in a row.

Having drawn the first leg of the tie 0-0 at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid last week, Carlo Ancelotti’s side needed just a 1-0 win in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight.

Los Blancos got just that, with Manchester United-owned striker Javier Hernandez’s goal in the 88th minute proving to be the difference between the two teams.

Madrid were helped by the dismissal of Atletico star Arda Turan in the 75th minute, but over the two legs, Carlo Ancelotti’s side deserved to win the tie.

Following tonight’s victory, former United star Ronaldo posted the following message on Twitter.

"Another important step in the UEFA champions league competition, thanks for your support".

Madrid will find out on Friday who they will face in the last four of the Champions League this season when the draw is made.

Spanish giants Barcelona, German powerhouse Bayern Munich and Italian champions Juventus are the other three semi-finalists.

Madrid are aiming to become the first team in history to win the title twice in a row in the Champions League era.
