Monaco 0-0 Juventus: Goalless draw sends Italian giant into semi-finals for first time since 2003

Juventus turned in a resolute display in Monaco to seal the result they needed and reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 12 seasons.

The Bianconeri travelled to Stade Louis II with a 1-0 lead in their back pocket, knowing that a goalless draw would hand them a last four spot - and that is exactly the result they emerged with.

Monaco put the Serie A champions under serious pressure but Massimiliano Allegri's side refused to crumble as they became the first Italian club in five seasons to reach the competition's semi-finals.

Arsenal's tormentor in chief Geoffrey Kondogbia looked the most likely player to unlock Juventus' defence throughout but it was Bernardo Silva who crafted the best opportunity of the first-half.

Andrea Barzagli almost turned into his own net when Monaco midfielder Silva steamed down the right and fired a cross at the Italian's leg.

Juve legend Gianluigi Buffon could only look on as the ball sailed inches wide of his near post.

Just minutes later Frenchman Kondogbia had a good appeal for a penalty when he was clattered into in the box by a combination of Arturo Vidal and Giorgio Chiellini.

There was undoubtedly contact between the trio and, on another day, the referee might well have awarded a penalty to Leonardo Jardim's side.

After withstanding Monaco's intense first-half pressure Juventus upped their game as the match entered the closing stages and saw the game out comfortably.

Real Madrid joined Juventus in booking their last four spot after Javier Hernandez netted a late winner at the Bernabeu to eliminate Atletico Madrid 1-0 on aggregate.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on 24 April.
