Man City-target Pep Guardiola to commit future to Bayern Munich

Manchester City have been dealt a major blow in their bid to sign Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola to replace Manuel Pellegrini this summer, with the Spanish coach set to extend his stay at the Allianz-Arena with the German Bundesliga title, reports Sky Sports.

This season, Bayern Munich have all but wrapped up the league title, and are in the Champions League semi-finals. The Germans are in great shape for a successful campaign under Guardiola which has seen him once again in high demands as his current contract is yet to be extended.

And with his former Barcelona colleague Txiki Begiristain working at Manchester City, of whom Guardiola is said to have been in contact with recently, rumours have arisen about a potential move to the Etihad stadium in the summer.

They aren’t the only club interested, but the Bayern boss himself hasn’t dropped any hints that he’s looking to leave, and instead speaks about how happy he is in Germany.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quick to play down such talk of an exit at the end of the season, and is expecting Guardiola to commit his future to the Bavarians.

He said: The aim is to extend Guardiola's contract and I think we have very good chances that he remains the coach here beyond 2016. I am not worried about (the Man city rumours). This just proves the quality of the coach.”
